Economic Research Group ERG is a not-for-profit organization established for promoting education and research with a view to improving economic justice in society. ERG seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and policy analysis within the context of Bangladesh and other countries of South and Southeast Asia. More Archive Saturday Adda Rocco Macchiavello (Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, University of Warwick, UK and Post-Doctoral Fellow, Harvard KSG) is currently visiting for possible research undertaking on RMG sector. He will have informal exchanges at ERG on Wednesday, September 8, 2010	Selected On-going Activities Atonu Rabbani leads an ERG team to draft a position paper on Eradication of Extreme Poverty in Bangladesh for the UNDP -Bangladesh. The final draft has been submitted. Sajjad Zohir will prepare a paper on Identifying Extreme Poor in Coastal Bangladesh and a second paper on Identifying Activities for Pro-Poor Employment and Income drawing upon value chain analysis. Impact of Price Increase on Poor Households and Children Wellbeing with supports from Save the Children UK was completed by Mohammed Helal Uddin during 2009. Academic Partnership Program (APP) and Investment Climate Research Program (ICRP) of IFC-BICF in collaboration with BMB Mott MacDonald, Netherlands led by Dr. A.K. Enamul Haque. Under the Academic Partnership Program NSU, IUB, AIUB, EWU, BRAC University are working on investment climate issues. Under ICRP, ERG will provide competitive research grants to individuals and institutions on investment climate issues. Economic Valuation of the Storm Protection Values of Mangrove forests under the coastal ecosystems of the Sundarbans Led By Sakib Mahmud. Advisors: Dr. Edward Barbier and Dr. A.K. Enamul Haque. Study supported by SANDEE Measuring movement out of poverty with supports from Microcredit Summit Campaign: the first paper by Sajjad Zohir with estimates on the number of MFI clients moving out of $1 a day threshold (click to view) was completed in 2008. A concept note on Nation-wide Survey to Measure Number of MFI Participants Graduating out of Poverty was submitted in October 2008. The final report has also been submitted. Social Safety Nets & Social Protection - a joint exercise with the IFPRI as a background to a multi-country study sponsored by ADB. The report has been completed, to be posted soon.
