International Growth Centre
(IGC) promotes demand driven
researches with specific focuses
on enhancing economic growth in
developing countries. IGC is
directed and organized by hubs
at London School of Economics
(LSE) and Oxford University in
England, and operates in several
countries including Bangladesh,
India, Pakistan, Ethiopia,
Ghana, Mozambique, Sierra Leone,
Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and
many others.
The
IGC-Bangladesh program is hosted
by Economic Research Group in
Dhaka. It is in
the process of formulating a
strategy to respond to
long-standing policy questions,
such as governance,
non-traditional export prospects
beyond garments, rationalization
of the tax system, poverty
alleviation (including the
impact of microcredit), and
improvements in social
indicators. The program is also
looking at short- to medium-term
work on climate change,
urbanization under intense
population density and skill
formation in a rapidly expanding
labor force.
