Brief outline of the Course 

The course has a number of focuses entangled into a single purpose of enriching participants in their ability to undertake socio-economic/development policy  research. It has three interlinked tracks - a short (one hour every day) lecture on areas related to actual undertaking of research in Bangladesh by eminent economists and social scientists; an hour and half classroom lecture on basic statistics, survey instruments and data analysis tools; and practical exposure to undertaking some of the exercises in computer sessions. In addition, several groups will be formed around such themes as, national income accounts/Bangladesh Bank data; Poverty analysis/BBS-HEIS data, and food and agriculture/FPMU data. Each of these groups will be supervised by an expert in the field in their in-depth probing into the respective data source and for the preparation of group presentation during the concluding session. How and when to apply 

We encourage all to apply online. In case one fails to apply online, please download the pdf file with the application form, and submit the filled form by mail or in person at the ERG office (Ground Floor, House # 3, Road # 16, Gulshan – 1, Dhaka – 1212). In either case, the deadline for submission is 7^th January 2006. All successful applicants will be individually communicated, and registration to the course will be completed only upon payment of the course fee. 

Payment of Course Fee

The fee for the course is Tk. 7,500 (Taka Seven Thousand Five Hundred only), with provision for partial waiver in limited cases. The fee will cover for access to computers in classrooms and to an exclusive segment in the ERG website (over a limited period), which will include course materials, lecture notes (after the lectures) and other information and supports. Course materials will also be provided on a CD. The fee will also cover for light refreshments during the course, one working lunch and participation in the certificate-awarding ceremony. We do hope that the there will be a closing dinner.

The registration fee will have to be paid by crossed checks crediting “Economic Research Group”.

3 sessions each day during 16-19 January 2006: 1400 – 1830 hr
Computer and Group sessions: 1000 – 1230 (Friday and Saturday), 1430 – 1700 (Friday)
Group presentation and certificate award ceremony: 1430 - 1700, Saturday, 21 January.

All classes will be held in NSU campus in Banani, Dhaka.
