Brief Outline
of the Course
The course is
formulated to facilitate the participants in using Computable
General Equilibrium (CGE) modeling techniques. The course design
is borrowed extensively from the out line of Economics 552 under
the program of Masters of Science in Policy Economics,
Department of Economics, University of Illinois. It offers
information and skills to develop and use PC-based CGE models
for economic policy analysis. The course provides the
participants with a methodology, through the use of hands on
examples, which can be developed into a full-fledged forecasting
tool. It also introduces how to examine more disaggregate data
and complicated models within CGE framework. The course teaches
simple techniques for analyzing various economic policy
questions, such as taxes and subsidies and trade restrictions.
The examples used during the course are mostly based on the
stylized facts of developing countries. Other than the first
day, each session of the course has two segments. After one hour
of lecture each participant is required to work out a relevant
exercise on the computer and prepare a report with that. For
